15 Temmuz Demokrasi ve Milli Birlik Günü konuşması
Thank you all for joining us today onour Democracy and National Unity Day!
Two years ago, on the night of July 15th, Fetullah Gülen and his disciples, namely the members of the Fetullahist
Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) tried to capture the Turkish State. At about 10:00 pm, the coup attempt began with shots inside the General Staff complex in Ankara. Meanwhile, it was reported that military forces had closed Istanbul's Bosphorus and Fatih
Sultan Mehmet Bridges, and the Ataturk Airport was shut-down.
Factions of the Turkish military took control of the state broadcasting agency TRT to officially announce the coup. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim informed the nation that a coup attempt was underway. Addressing the nation on media o outlets via mobile phone, President Erdoğan confirmed the coup and urged people to resist and defend Turkey’s democracy by getting out to streets.
Security sources indicated immediately that the coup was conducted by some high and mid-ranking officers who are members of the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) led by U.S.-based, self-exiled cleric Fethullah Gülen.
Fethullah Gülen TerroristOrganization (FETÖ), claims to be a transnational religious and social movement directed by the orders of an elementary school graduate preacher Fethullah Gülen. The stated objective of the group, which presents itself as the “Hizmet (Service) Movement” in the countries it operates, is “to raise a moral community primarily in Turkey and Turkic geography.” However, many multi-national scholars dispute this and argue that the group has been acting with the purpose of forming an “organization within the State”, a parallel structure, since the first day of its establishment. According to research conducted by various scholars and journalists, under their deviant religious ideology, FETÖ considers it legitimate to engage in all kinds of self-defensive deception, conspiracy, trap and illegal activities to achieve its objectives. With years of confidential training and dissuasion activities, members of the terrorist organization have gained a level of professionalism beyond the comprehension of ordinary people. Its members operate with a radical “devotion” and see themselves as the “chosen ones”.
The real objective of the group is to seize all mechanisms of constitutional institutions, security units, civil service and judicial authority of the Turkish state as well as to become a great and influential political and economic power at internationallevel. With its distinct ideology, organized structure and using coercion/violence by all means to achieve its aforementioned objectives, findings indicate that FETO’s structure is a terrorist organization.
That night, Members of FETÖ used lethal military force against innocent civilians, martyred 251 (two hundred and fifty one) civilians, and wounded more than two thousand people. They bombed the Parliament and many critical buildings in Ankara, including presidency, police and intelligence agency headquarters by heavy weaponry and airplanes. But the Turkish nation displayed a historic solidarity as they took to the streets and remained defiant. They stood bravely in front of the tanks and reclaimed their democratic rights. Despite all the brutal tools that FETO used on 15 July 2016 Turkish people resisted and stopped this terrorist attempt to overthrow the Turkish state. It is proudly to note that those people took to the streets to protect not the material assets they owned but to protect their beliefs, faiths, personalities, freedoms and the future of themselves and next generations.
Both the police and public prosecutors loyal to the state immediately took necessary measures to foil the attempt. Throughout the process, all the political parties and Members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly stood firmly by democracy, democratic institutions and the Constitution. A Joint Declaration in defense of democracy was issued during the extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly on the 16th of July.
FETÖ established its structures in around 160 countries, with thousands of schools and businesses. And their actions in Turkey should be considered as a wake-up call for other countries.
We are pleased to note the increasing awareness of ourpartners regarding the security threat posed by FETÖ. In many countries, FETÖschools and other entities have been put under state control. Investigationsinto FETÖ structures and its operatives are under way in many of them. Globalcrime apparatus of this organization is shrinking. But unfortunately, it isstill alive.
We urge the remaining countries which host FETÖ members that this terrorist organization is extremely dangerous for the countries, they are professional in disguise.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Uzbekistan authorities who have detected at a very early stage the FETO presence and danger in the country and not allowed this terrorist organization to have a hold in Uzbekistan.
Before ending my remarks, I would liketo remember once more 241 of our civilians, police officers and soldiersmartyred on the night of the coup attempt and bow in front of their memory withrespect and gratitude. Martyrsof July 15 inscribedtheir names in the glorious pages of Turkish history and in the hearts of ournation with golden letters.
I wish Allah’s mercy upon them and extend my condolences to their families and our nation. I wish a long and healthy life to all our dear our veterans.
Thank you for your attention.
